Make the most out of your Psychology degree at Ohio State
Follow these guidelines for success!
Year 1 Goal: Participate!
Begin Psychology coursework – Psych 1100, 2220, 2300, and Core Requirements.
Create a resume. ASC Career Services can help improve your resume.
Check your progress with your advisor each semester and talk about how to get involved.
Year 2 Goal: Prepare!
Continue Psychology coursework – focus on completing Psych 2220, 2300, and Core Requirements.
Attend Psychology Career, Internship, and Graduate School Fair in autumn semester.
Seek out internships to explore your career interests and earn Psych 3191 course credit.
Pursue research opportunities and earn Psych 4998 course credit.
Communicate with faculty if you are interested in completing a thesis (Psych 4999).
Prepare for graduate school by reviewing the graduate school timeline and attending informational events.
Get to know the faculty: go to office hours, talk to them before/after class and at department events.
Check your progress with your advisor each semester and prepare for your future career.
Year 3 Goal: Promote!
Finish all Psychology Core Requirements and start advanced Psychology courses.
Network and promote yourself by letting others know your goals after graduation.
Conduct informational interviews with professionals and start job shadowing experiences.
Research graduate programs and prepare to take the GRE over the summer.
Update your resume, create a cover letter, and practice your interviewing skills at ASC Career Services.
If pursuing a thesis to graduate with Research Distinction, take Psych 4999.01 in spring semester.
Attend/present at the Psychology Undergraduate Research Colloquium.
Plan your final year with your advisor.
Year 4 Goal: Pursue!
Complete advanced and elective Psychology courses.
Continue leadership and internship experiences.
Meet with your psychology advisor to submit graduation application after you schedule your final semester of classes.
